Are you interested in the business side of practice?

I’ve been writing a lot about the behind-the-scenes activities of running an architecture practice lately, and learning more about the challenges facing architects, and how they might be overcome.

Several architects have told me they’d like to read those articles, so I’m posting some links here and will continue to update this blog as more of them are published online.

The first article is about the use of PIM - Project Information Management software - across two separate architecture firms, and it ran in Consulting Matters, the magazine of Consult Australia.

Another one from Australian Design Review looks at ways of “future-proofing” architecture practice using a combination of design smarts and new technologies.

“We need to convince practices that good design and good business management are complementary, and both are required to create sustainable practices, and therefore guarantee the future of the profession.” - Kieran Wong, Cox Architects Director and ACA President

They both refer to Deltek’s really useful and free research report called Insight to Action: The Future of the Professional Services Industry, which is available at their website.

A third article - this one for the ACA - provides a recaps of the exciting discussions at the inaugural Business of Small Practice (BoSP) forum, held in Perth recently. You can read that one at Architecture AU.
