Julie Eizenberg
Koning Eizenberg Architecture, Los Angeles, USA
Living in Los Angeles for more than three decades hasn’t dented Australian architect Julie Eizenberg’s larrikin spirit, which imbues her architecture with a sense of social responsibility that is more rebellious than righteous.
I first met Julie at her office in LA in 2003 during my Churchill Fellowship, when I was researching Sustainable and Affordable Housing.
She was a generous host who freely shared her knowledge about designing and building social housing in LA.
In 2016 I was lucky to meet her again at the AIA National Conference in Adelaide, where I interviewed her for Steel Profile magazine. She reflected on her immigrants roots, her father's adoption of 'Australian' habits, and the way his 'larrikin' spirit permeates her work in the USA.
